About The Mia Collection
Our Story
Mia Living, co-founded by our owner Kay Bines was originally set up to be a Property Management company for Serviced Accommodation. The drive behind starting Mia Living was to create a company, that set the standards higher in a busy market, by raising the professionalism and being investor focused at its core.
Mia Livings first property to manage was a beautiful converted Chapel in Swansea - a mix of six pet friendly apartments by the sea. To keep everything ‘in-house’ Mia By Design, founded by owner Deborah Cochrane, was created to carry out the full setup and staging at The Chapel, and together we went live with this block in March 2021.
Word quickly spread in the Investor and Rent to Rent space, and Mia Living grew very quickly - going from zero to c.110 properties under management in the first year. The properties were a mix of leisure and business. During this time Kay and Deborah decided to join forces as Co-Owners of the Mia Collection and bringing the combined services under one brand.
The first year was a baptism of fire. The combined mix of leisure and corporate clients was extremely time heavy (with some very interesting stories!). In addition, the Serviced Accommodation market had become busier - fighting for rates against competition within Online Travel Agencies was tough, so we decided to refocus.
Having looked at the strengths and backgrounds of our team the founders decided it was time to change strategy, by offloading the primarily leisure focussed properties in favour of the properties in high demand for corporate stays.
This risk paid off and was a huge success. Led by our Sales Director Jade Edwards, our occupancy skyrocketed. Investors valued the consistency of returns over quick win short stays.
Thanks to the success of this change, our next challenge was that our client booking demands were more than the units we had available, and the market for new units had slowed considerably - the idea of Mia Partners was then formed. Kay has always had a hugely collaborative approach with fellow management companies, and Mia Partners worked.
In the middle of 2023, we were approached by a Company who wished to purchase our property portfolio, which we initially declined. However, the seed had been planted and seeing the opportunities available for growth within Mia Partners when not operating as a traditional management company, we revisited this option and sold the contracts of our business in December 2023.
Mia Living, rebranded to Mia Partners, now operates as the Sales Team for Serviced Accommodation providers - driving direct bookings and occupancy in a busy market. We currently have 370 properties on our books and are once again growing fast. This reinforces to our small team that this decision was while once again a risk, one that will be worth it.
By selling the management arm of the company it also allowed Mia By Design to continue to grow as an independent provider and after conversations with Landlords it was decided to also offer renovations!
Mia Consulting was also formalised after seeing the demand from business owners approaching Kay and Jade for help and support. Their experience and strategies are helping business owners thrive.
